What's on at Ashford Picturehouse
If you are looking for a fun activity this cold January, Ashford Picturehouse is the place to be! Make a whole day of it by stopping for dinner & drinks before the film starts at Unità 4, Macknade, Matches Sports bar & Grill, or even at Picturehouse!
Here are our favourites screening this January.
Licorice pizza: California’s San Fernando Valley, 1973. Gary Valentine (Cooper Hoffman) is a precocious high schooler and child star who meets – and is immediately besotted with – Alana (Alana Haim), a twenty-something photographer’s assistant trying desperately to find herself. The two of them form an unlikely bond, and soon begin running around the Valley together taking part in Gary’s many haphazard schemes.
Memoria: Jessica (Tilda Swinton) is a Scottish orchid farmer, traversing the jungles of Botoga, Colombia to visit her sister. After hearing a peculiarly loud ‘bang’ at daybreak, she begins experiencing a mysterious sensory syndrome that she attempts to understand as she continues her journey. From the extraordinary mind of Palme D’or winning director Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives), Memoria is a singular cinematic experience with an anchoring lead performance from Swinton.
Scream: Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.
Nightmare Alley: Ambitious showman Stanton ‘Stan’ Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) is on the run after a stint at a roaming carnival, armed with a mind-reading act that he’s certain will make him famous. That is until he meets local psychiatrist Lillian Ritter (Cate Blanchett). The two agree to team up to swindle Ritter’s rich clientele, but both soon end up caught in a web of their own deceptions.
