Conceptualised and created by Strange Cargo, The Elwick Etchings is a collection of remembrances about Ashford’s historic Cattle Market, the site of important local significance on which Elwick Place proudly stands.
More than 100 of the contributions shared with Strange Cargo by the Ashford community, including stories, poems and local people’s histories about the surrounding Ashford area, have been permanently etched into 101 large granite paving slabs and set into the public walkways of Elwick Place for everyone to discover, read and enjoy.
Commissioned by Elwick Place’s partner developer Stanhope PLC, Strange Cargo’s The Elwick Etchings public artwork was officially unveiled in December 2018.
